Global Roundup

For Real Peace in Bosnia

The roster of Nato's peacekeeping troops in Bosnia/Herzegovina reads like a disordered world army: U.S. 20,000 soldiers; Britain, 13,500; France, 10,000; Germany, 5000; Italy, 2100; Netherlands, 2000; Canada, 1500; Russia, 2000; Malaysia, 1600; Spain, 1500; Bangladesh, 1250; Belgium, 1000; Turkey, 1000; Denmark, 1000; Greece, 1000; Pakistan, 1000; Sweden, 1000; Portugal, 900; Finland, 850; Czech Republic, 800; Poland, 800; Norway, 750; Hungary, 400; Austria, 300; Luxembourg, 300; Slovak Republic, 200; Estonia, 100.

Although states such as Japan, China, South Africa and Israel have not supplied troops, the detachment can be seen as broadly representative, both regionally and globally.

World Citizen News urges the young mostly men in the peacekeeping force to pledge their allegiance to the World Government and to apply for admission to the Sovereign Order of World Guards, our government's "police force."

Then there could be a real chance for peace in that hazardous, semi-ravaged land. Why? Because the peacekeepers would then represent a common law among civilians, not only in Bosnia, but throughout the world community. Currently, as diverse units of separate nations under the command of the strictly military-oriented Nato, the force's modus operandi is to apply violence against violence. That's a no-win situation for Bosnia's people.

Suicidal, Matricidal Humanity

January's news may have been dominated by the U.S. budget debate, the Bosnian/NATO scenario, Francois Mitterrand's death, Yasir Arafat's election victory, and Boris Yeltsin's dilemma over Chechnya, but the headlines for many of our tomorrows will chronicle the destruction of the planet's ecosystem.

Nuclear waste, already measured in mega-tonnage, will pollute the soil for hundreds of thousands of years to come. Can we not therefore be seen as killers of our own progeny?

Nuclear energy plants are innately suicidal. This poses the further question: Is the human race mad? If so, it will destroy itself. It is already guilty of attempted matricide due to its assault on Mother Earth.

World States Declare and Unite!

Of the 25 small demilitarized countries of this planet, several are member countries of the United Nations: Costa Rica, Dominica, Gambia, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Monaco, Palau, Panama, San Marino, Solomon Islands and Vanuata.

Like the over 900 cities throughout the planet which have "mondialized," these small states should declare themselves "world states" and their citizens, world citizens. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain....especially leadership.

For, as the man said, "The first shall be last, and the last shall be first." Perfect geo-dialectics.
